Leroy Straker is currently an Infrastructure Demand Management Specialist at MetLife with over 20 years of experience in the IT field. Leroy has a diverse background in enterprise infrastructure support and management, with experience in areas ranging from system administration, web design, database management, enterprise computing, incident management, process improvement, and project management.
At MetLife, Leroy oversees the Demand Management team where he coordinates infrastructure planning, governance, and delivery across the enterprise. He is primarily responsible for Global Technology Operations (GTO) functions which support infrastructure capacity demand governance for the LATAM partners, planning for a $500m+ infrastructure budget, application onboarding and infrastructure decommissions, as well as upgrades and migrations for enterprise-wide Currency projects. He championed an initiative to harden the decommissioning process to reduce the inherent risk associated with said activities thereby improving efficiency and cost effectiveness of the process. Leroy also serves as the team representative for Major Incident Management (MIM) issues where infrastructure (capacity) is the potential cause of an outage.
Prior to MetLife, Leroy served as manager for the Global Incident Management Engineering (IME) team at Verizon Enterprise Solutions (formerly Terremark). He led a high-performing team of seasoned engineers in Verizon’s hosting division providing L1/L2 support for Cloud-hosted clients. As the IME manager, he was the point of escalation for elevated issues while coordinating incident response and remediation, client contact, and resolution communication. Leroy also worked as the IT manager for the Southeast communications and collaborations company, Call One, Inc. prior to managing at Verizon.
Leroy has an MBA in Global IT Management, dual bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems, and Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech). He is currently working on a graduate certificate in Information Security with Champlain College in Vermont focusing on Managing Risk in IT Organizations, Security Intelligence and Automation, Security Design & Architecture, Threat & Vulnerability Analysis, and Incident Response & Event Management.
Prior to migrating to the United States Leroy attended Harrison College in Barbados where he was born and raised.
In his desire to ‘give back’ to the community, Leroy also serves as a Technical Advisor for KEYS and as a Mathematics instructor in the KEYS Learning programme.
