KEYS was founded by Doreen King, a Barbadian who migrated to the United States. Doreen recognised the importance of reaching back and lending a helping hand to make a difference. She firmly believed that education and helping hands from caring individuals were her KEYS to success and wanted to ensure that others have the nurturing, guidance and opportunity at success. After many years of individually giving back to Barbados, Doreen sought to formalize her contributions and simultaneously motivate others to join her cause for a greater impact, thus Knowledge to Enable Your Success was born.
KEYS focuses its efforts especially on: underserved youth and girls having access to equitable, inclusive education and opportunities that enable them to achieve their full potential; supporting, developing and empowering future leaders; promoting social responsibility; and enabling youth impact and contribution to their community and society. To accomplish this, KEYS utilizes a STREAMS (STEM + reading + wRiting + Arts + Skills Training) framework and project based learning. KEYS designs and implements comprehensive, innovative programmes & initiatives geared towards comprehensive literacy and developing change agents and leaders. Our programmes also emphasize and incorporate vital skills building.
Literacy is the fundamental foundation for learning, success and civic prosperity. Children who engage in various forms of literacy boost their confidence, build bridges between their families, communities and experience new learning. Literacy is needed for both individual and collective benefits. It is vital to all facets of society, as it improves everyone's well being and future.
Additionally, KEYS serves as a conduit for volunteerism and philanthropy to the Caribbean. KEYS does the ground work of sourcing voids at the country, community and individual level; organising initiatives to remedy those voids and connecting people to opportunities to give back to the region.
